Special Achievement Award Presented to Paula Whiteman, M.D., FACEP, FAAP
The National American Academy of Pediatrics presented Paula Whiteman, M.D., FACEP, FAAP, the special achievement award for her outstanding contributions to Pediatric Emergency Medicine
October 13, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) In an organization of over 60,000 pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics (“AAP”) recognized one particular stand out, Paula Whiteman, MD, FACEP, FAAP. Dr. Whiteman was presented with a special achievement award for her distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the academy. The AAP cited her contributions to improving access to quality emergency care in the chapter.
This is not the first time Dr. Whiteman has been presented with this award as she was honored in 2005 for her contributions to the local committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine. “I currently serve as co-chair of the Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine, which is a joint committee of the Los Angeles Pediatric Society and the California Chapter 2, AAP,” said Whiteman. “This committee works with the Los Angeles County, Department of Health Services, and the Emergency Medical Services Agency to develop standards, such as the Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics, EDAP, and Pediatric Medical Center, PMC, standards. Hospitals voluntarily meet these standards, so that ambulances will preferentially bring sick children to the emergency departments of these hospitals. This committee also helps to provide the physician and nurse surveyors.”
Dr. Whiteman was given this award last month at the quarterly California, Chapter 2 American Academy of Pediatrics meeting. Dr. Myles Abbott, the district chair, flew down from Northern California to personally present this award.
