Triage (French; definition: "to sort")

Within a few moments of arrival, the individual seeking care will be triaged. Be aware that while triage occurs in the waiting area, patients may be arriving via ambulance through another entrance directly into the treatment area.

Triage is done on the basis of severity or urgency and determines the order of patient evaluation. Triage is the assignment of priority as to who should be seen first on the basis of severity or illness. On occasion, the availability of a particular service may influence the order in which you are seen. The goal is to provide prompt service to everybody, but those who are most ill will be seen first.

At an appropriate time, throughout the triage and medical screening evaluation, registration information will be obtained. Please review Section I: Patient Rights. Your medical care will neither be denied nor delayed on the basis of the registration process or on the basis of any information gathering inclusive of insurance information.
